Interventional oncology is a minimally invasive treatment that directly targets cancer tumors using advanced image-guided technology. It's considered to be one of the newest and more aggressive options in cancer treatment today.
At KIMS, we have interventional oncologists specially trained in this rapidly advancing field. They are dedicated to this subspecialty of interventional radiology, focused on precisely targeting difficult-to-treat cancers. KIMS interventional oncologists are experts in understanding how minimally invasive intervention can fit into your overall treatment plan. They collaborate closely with cancer specialists in surgery, medical oncology and radiation therapy. Should you be treated with interventional oncologic therapies, after your treatment, your interventional oncologist will work with the other doctors on your cancer care team, reviewing imaging scans and monitoring your progress as much as needed.
Our interventional oncologists treat patients with the following cancers.
- Primary liver cancer
- Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
- Bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma)
Secondary liver cancer (cancers that spread to the liver)
- Colon cancer
- Neuroendocrine cancer
- Other localized liver metastases
Lung cancer (early stage)
Not all cancer patients are candidates for interventional oncology. This minimally invasive treatment depends on many things, including the type of cancer you have, its location and whether or not it has spread.
